The league is excited to have another community represented from Colorado in the competition. MPL sat down with GM and Coach Andre Ally who told MPL, "We're thrilled to join the MPL because of the league's reputation for competitiveness and sportsmanship. We're also excited to test ourselves against the best teams in the league and to contribute to the growth and development of soccer in the Colorado community." "The Black Lions were founded in 2023 by a group of passionate soccer enthusiasts", and the roster "is made up of players from all over, mostly players who have come to Denver from East, West and Central Africa. Many of the players have previous experience in the MPL with teams such as Peak Eleven FC, GAM United, CO Rapids, and CO Rush." Ally went on to explain to MPL. "We've been competing in local competitions, and we're excited to take the next step by joining the MPL. We're proud of our teams history and tradition, and we're looking forward to writing the next chapter."
With several established key players returning from last season the Black Lions have a couple players you'll want to keep your eyes on this season. Forward Chencho had a standout season, and the team is expecting big things from his partner up top Rene, who had 23 goals and 7 assists in his previous campaign over 12 matches in UAPSL. Another player expected to shine will be defensive midfielder Amisi, fans will enjoy seeing him play and he is the heart of the Black Lions. While ages on the team range from 16-30 the avaerage age of the players are in their early 20s.
Andre Ally was asked about his teams style of play, he said "We're a team that likes creating in the final third and scoring our chances when they come while also remaining balanced defensively in the back. We will look to bring a high level of energy to the league, moving the ball quickly to create our opportunities."
The Mountain Premier League is a regional affiliate league of the Nation Independent Soccer Association sanctioned under the United States Adult Soccer Association a member of the United States Soccer Federation. The league offers play to teams in Colorado, Southern Idaho, Western Nebraska/Kansas, Wyoming, and Utah. Teams entered are eligible to compete in the USASA National Amateur Cup, US Open Cup Qualifying, NISA Independent Cup, and NISA Nation National Champsionship.
