THE MOUNTAIN PREMIER LEAGUE ANNOUNCES DANIEL WORKMAN AS 2019 LEAGUE COMMISSIONER

The Mountain Premier League is elated to continue its work with helping build an open and FIFA compliant system by announcing and welcoming Daniel Workman as the League Commissioner for the inaugural year. The Mountain Premier League believes there is no better example of a leader putting the work in to unify US Soccer with clear solutions and an executable plan. Many of those ideas are covered on his show: “Soccer Works with Daniel Workman.”

The MPL is founded upon operational criteria and viability standards inspired by FIFA-compliant open system leagues. The league will play a short Spring 2019 season and aim to unify with other open system leagues playing a full Fall to Spring format. Daniel will work closely with the league’s board members to adjust its model to ensure equal opportunity and professionalism from its members. He believes, “opportunity and access are critical if American soccer is ever going to reach its potential. There are a lot of people who talk about improving soccer in this country, but the founding clubs of the Mountain Premier League are taking action. My hope is that more clubs and leagues join forces and take similar steps to work together to provide more opportunities and access to communities across the country.”

After attending the recent 2019 US Soccer Annual General Meeting, Daniel said, “the landscape of US Soccer is shifting. Participation is declining, and the Federation is definitely aware. Although I didn’t see any obvious solutions presented at the AGM, I am hopeful that more and more clubs will look to come together to build a better future."

The Mountain Premier league intends to have 5-6 teams representing Colorado and Southern Wyoming in the Spring 2019 competition. Teams will participate in a home and away balanced format with the winner being crowned as finishing atop the league table. Daniel said “this is just the beginning. It won’t be easy, but if these clubs commit to building the MPL, the future will be as bright as it will be rewarding.” All teams will be announced prior to March 1st. The league will kickoff March 31st.

Workman Joins MPL As Commissioner for 2019. Workman will work with MPL in addition to producing his new show, and continuing the podcast Soccer Works with Daniel Workman. Soccer Works just produced a 10 part series The Path Forward. Daniel was most recently in Miami reporting and uncovering the FIFA ExCo meetings.
